TARAKHOVSKII GROUP HOMEPAGE

ORIGINS & HISTORY

A history of the Tarakhovskii family, which includes connections to the Tarachow, Kaitiff, Harris, Black, Marks and Silver families.

These several maps help to place in context the unsolved mystery of the Tarakhovskii family's exact place of origin.

JewishGen is the leading website in the field of online Jewish genealogy. Its ShtetLinks project encourages landsmen to build and publish websites for their ancestral shtetlach in the heim. This small website run by David DuVal provides a short history of the town and some information on its location, pogroms and some very interesting photos.

RECOLLECTIONS

Semen Tarakhovskii was born in the Ukraine in 1912 and his family remained in the former USSR without emigrating to the West. Here, his son Yury remembers his father's achievements fondly, setting his life events in a socio-historical context.

  • Recollections of Norman Marks  (coming soon)

Norman Marks tells of his early childhood in London and being bombed out in 1940, prompting his evacuation to the Buckinghamshire countryside. He also talks about his father's music career, including his scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music.

Hillel had invited Rev Blaser to his son David's Bar Mitzvah in January 1913. Rev Blaser declined the invitation with this letter, containing many phrases typically used by devout ministers.

This article was part of the Journal's "Everyday People" series, and covers a certain amount of the history of Chaim Jankel's branch of the Tarakhovskii family. It is also a lovely tribute to a much-loved family matriarch.

My grandparents' house was destroyed in the Blitz in 1940, with my grandmother inside. Miraculously, she survived, and this is my study of the incident and the findings of my research.
