Szejna Rajchel (aka Jennie) Kowalska and her husband

and first cousin, Moszk (aka Morris) Kowalski

 

New York, c.1924

 

Both were born in Radzilow in the 1890s, and came to

New York in 1912 (Morris) and 1921 (Szejna Rajchel). Szejna Rajchel died in 1933, and Morris died in 1964.

 

 

Yiddish inscription reads:

 

"Tsum andenken shik ich eich mein picta."

 

"As a memento, I send you my picture"

 

English post-script by Lynda Harvey reads:

"Sheine Rochel (died circa 1918)", though this

estimated death date is now thought to relate to

Szejna Rajchel's sister Sora Fejga.

Szejna Rajchel Kowalska

 

New York, c. early 1930s

 

Szejna Rajchel was born in Radzilow c.1898 and came to New York in 1921, where she married her first cousin, Morris (né Moszk) Kowalski. She died in New York in 1933.

 

Yiddish inscription reads:

 

“As a memento, I send this picture of my arrival in America to my sister Brina. From me, your sister, Sheine Reichel Kowalski.”

Yiddish inscription reads:

 

"...dieze pictur fir meine shvester Malka deinkt fun mir...  mir gur nit. Fun mir dein shvester un kuzin, Morris un Sheine Reichel Kowalski."

 

"...this picture for my sister Malka taken for my... thinks that absolutely nothing will become of me. From me, your sister and cousin, Morris and Sheine Reichel Kowalski."

 

Note:  Sheine Reichel had no known sister called Malka!

Herbert Kovalsky (later Kavall)

 

New York, c.1935

 

Herbert was born in New York in 1927 and died in Las Vegas in 1996.

Probably taken in New York, c.1940 (left) and c.1950 (right)

 

Morris was born in Radzilow c.1893 and came to New York in 1912 with his cousin Chaim Finkielsztejn.

He married his first cousin, Szejna Rajchel Kowalska, in 1921, and Herbert was born in 1927.

Morris died in New York in 1964; Herbert died in Las Vegas, 1996.
